Seventeen years as a naval officer and here's where I end up.

A Conversation with Walter Bathory.  Officer, gentleman and JoDokk Advaita Vedantist.  (Better than a half-cocked henrietta darn-dentist!)

JDDONLINE:  So what part of Reality don't you understand?

WB:  That's probably my problem.  I've always tried to intellectually grasp that which was intellectually impossible to have.

JDDONLINE: Can you explain?

WB:  The intellect is the reflection of the ego.  It "verifies" and gives a daily "authentication" to something that is not real.  So, using the ego, or the intellect to destroy the ego is totally impossible.  It is a wiley little illusion that truly wants it's existence.  It will create a thousand little ruses to keep from being destroyed.  "If I'm a good little ego and I do my yoga or my confession or my prayers or my bijhans, I will go to 'enlightenment.'  I can be 'Realized.'  After six thousand times of talking to JoDokk, I finally heard that through my ego's filter and there is no identification now.  I couldn't care less.

JDDONLINE:  What did you do, particularly?

WB:  I did nothing.  It sound goofy for a westerner to say but I truly understand what they mean in india when they say, "I trusted my teacher and left it in his hands."

JDDONLINE:  Do you mean guru?

WB: Westerners are afraid of that word.  It has been greatly abused.  I mean that as soon as I stopped caring about "gaining" enlightenment or spiritual progress, the door began to open for me.  That can become a goal in itself and there is the cunondrum.

JDDONLINE: Thanks for talking to us.

WB:  Thanks for having me.
